Man booked for selfie at polling booth

HYDERABAD: A man, who took a selfie while casting his vote at polling booth no. 125 in Upparpally, under Rajendranagar constituency, landed in trouble after Cyberabad police registered a case against him on Friday. But, in contrast, IT minister K Taraka Rama Rao took selfies with voters and photos with polling staff at Banjara Hills but was not booked.

Shiva Shankar was booked under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the IPC, DCP (Shamshabad Zone) Prakash Reddy said. He was taken into custody but was released on bail later.

Meanwhile, a video of KTR went viral where he was seen taking a selfie with a woman at a polling booth in Banjara Hills. In fact, KTR took the selfie himself. He did cast his vote after that. Later, the polling staff near the EVM requested a photo with him to which KTR obliged.

Asked whether any case was going to be lodged against KTR, Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar told TOI that he would take legal opinion though the minister did not take the selfie while casting his vote.

“It can be considered as a case of model code violation,” police said.
