FRC slashes fees of several schools, orders refund of excess fees

Rajkot: In a huge relief for hundreds of parents, the Fee Regulation Committee () has ordered several schools in the city to refund the extra fees collected in the last two years.
Out of the total 250 schools, the committee completed the hearing of 35 to fix their fees.

Justice (retd) R D Kothari, chairman, FRC Rajkot zone told TOI: “We have ordered those schools to refund the extra fees they collected in 2017-18 and 2018-19. They will have to refund those students who have left the school and adjust the fees of coming years for the present students.”

DV Mehta, member of the committee, said “The proposed fee of TN Rao school has been reduced by Rs 65 lakh.”

In a statement FRC said, “We have ordered Raj Kumar School to refund Rs 50,000 each to 500 students who have taken admission in the last two years. North Star school proposed a fees of Rs 2 to 3 lakh but we have ordered them to keep the fees between Rs 1.35 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh. The FRC got total 250 applications from private schools in Rajkot out of which the fees of 35 schools have been decided. The committee has disposed the proposal of total 3,500 schools of 10 districts of Saurashtra.”

Nirmal Convent School and Aatmiya School have been ordered to refund Rs 75 lakh and Rs 35 lakh respectively.

FRC also reduced the fees of Podar International School by Rs 4,000 to 5,000 and that of North Star School by Rs 65,000 to Rs 1.20 lakh
