Angadia firm staff robbed at gunpoint in GSRTC bus

Palanpur: Six employees of Deesa and Palanpur- based angadia firms were robbed of valuable worth Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint from inside a Gujarat State Road Transportation Corporation (GSRTC) bus near Lagnaj village about 8km from Mehsana city on Thursday night.
On Friday, the police recovered the SUV, in which the eight armed men who conducted the robbery had escaped, and recovered portion of the looted valuables.

Police said that the armed robbers in the age group of 25-30 years had boarded the Deesa-Ahmedabad bus from Unawa (near Unjha town) on Thursday afternoon. “The robbers had boarded the bus like normal passengers. When the bus reached near a water park in Lagnaj the robbers swung into action,” said sub-inspector of Lagnaj police station RK Patel.

One of them pointed a gun at the driver and asked him to stop the bus, while other told the passengers to put down their heads, Patel said. “The robbers snatched five bags containing diamonds, gold, silver and cash valued at Rs 10 lakh from the angadia firm employees. They got off the bus and boarded a SUV and fled from the spot,” added Patel.

Dy SP, Mehsana, Manjita Vanzara said, “Several were formed and main roads were cordoned off. The SUV in which they had fled was traced using CCTV footages. It was found abandoned along some portion of the loot.”

She said that the this was a pre-planned robber as the accused knew that the angadia employees were inside the GSRTC bus. The FIR in connection with the robber was lodged by Visnubhahi Patel, employee of angadia frim of Deesa in Banaskantha. He had stated that the valuables were worth more than Rs 10 lakh.
