Son kills father in self-defence, surrenders

Nagpur: After being attacked by his inebriated father, an angry Sachin Benibagde (21) inflicted more than 40 injuries on him with a metal rod at their Aradhana Nagar (Beedgaon) residence late on Friday night. Santosh, who was in his late 40s, died on the spot.
Police said Sachin kept raining blows till Santosh became motionless. He then stepped out with the blood-stained rod. A patrolling squad of Nandanvan police spotted him near Sangharsh Nagar Chowk. Sachin confessed and was placed under arrest.

It is learnt that Santosh was addicted to liquor. He would create a ruckus at home after consuming alcohol. Sachin, his elder brother Sandeep and their mother Chhayya would confront him leading to altercations in the family.

Sources close to the family said Santosh, who lived off his carpentry work, was so cruel to Chhayya that she shifted to her brother’s house in Amgaon (Gondia) around four months ago. Earlier too a drunk Santosh had been beaten up by his sons and relatives for which a non-cognizable offence was registered against them at Nandanvan police station.

Friday’s fight began when Santosh felt that Sachin was staring at him. “Santosh went to hit his son with a rod. Sachin managed to dodge the blow. He then snatched the rod and started beating up his father,” said police.

Sandeep said he had to rush his pregnant wife Kanchan to a private hospital at Hasanbagh after she developed some uneasiness. “We brothers and our mother were tormented by our father since several years and it had become difficult for us to live in the same house,” he said.
